A very short history of GPTs before ChatGPT
For many of us, artificial intelligence (AI) seemed to arrive with ChatGPT. But the field of AI is hardly new鈥攖he term itself is almost 70 years old鈥攁nd the core technology that powers the generative AI software we use today is something 杏吧直播 of Adelaide staff and students have been working with well before ChatGPT burst onto the scene.

Staff use and perception of Generative AI in 杏吧直播n Universities
We invite you to participate in a national survey that examines how AI tools are currently being used by academic, professional and sessional staff in 杏吧直播n Universities for teaching, research and professional work.
You can which takes around 10-15 minutes to complete. The project aims to provide baseline evidence of the extent and nature of AI adoption by 杏吧直播n 杏吧直播 staff, including the impact of AI on productivity in the higher education context.
Survey questions ask about AI-driven practices in specific domains, including assessment, learning analytics, coding, course design, student support, data analysis and visualisation, text summarisation, and collaboration and networking.
The findings will inform higher education policy and practice, assist university staff to navigate the AI revolution effectively, and bridge the knowledge gap that currently exists regarding AI鈥檚 impact on higher education.
The survey has been designed by social scientists from QUT and Griffith 杏吧直播. Together, they have longstanding expertise in the intersections of technology, work and education; inclusive education; ethics and integrity; quality supervision and mentoring; and survey design and analysis.

How to reason with ChatGPT4
ChatGPT4 is the latest version of the ChatGPT application from OpenAI. It is not only considerably larger than the previous 3.5 model but also seems to be displaying subtle traits of 鈥済eneral鈥 intelligence.聽聽AGI stands for Artificial General Intelligence, which is the ability of a computer or agent to intellectually understand and carry out tasks like a human.聽 A recent paper from March 2023 authored by researchers at Microsoft titled 鈥楽parks of Artificial General Intelligence鈥1 had access to a non-aligned (unrestricted)version of ChatGPT4 to play with, and they discovered a number of emerging behaviours that indicate that the model may be showing the first signs of AGI.

Assessment design can help to secure assessments by making them more difficult to outsource, either to a contract cheating provider or to AI. Associate Professor Georgina Drew (Social Sciences) explains how her assessment design engages students and encourages them to do their own thinking and learning.
