President of the Czech Republic, His Excellency Mr Petr Pavel, recently visited the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide to learn more about the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥â€™s capabilities in AI, machine learning, computer science and cyber.
The President was joined by Her Excellency Ms Jana Tyrer, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, His Excellency Mr Benjamin Hayes, ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Ambassador to the Republic of Poland, accredited to the Czech Republic and Lithuania, and Ms Vera Holt, Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.
The delegation heard presentations from Professor Simon Lucey, Director of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Institute for Machine Learning, Professor Abelardo Pardo, Head of the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, and Professor Michael Webb, Executive Director of the Defence and Security Institute.
The Czech Republic is investing in research and development to create innovative solutions that add value to industry and services, much like the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide.
An alignment of these priorities was evident during this visit with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide and The Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI), European Research Infrastructure Consortium. This agreement was signed by Professor Peter Høj AC, Vice-Chancellor at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, and Mr Roman HvÄ•zda, Director of ELI Beamlines.
This collaboration will enhance and accelerate ongoing efforts and capabilities by leveraging complementary technologies in laser development (directed energy) through the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥â€™s Ultrashort and Short Pulsed Lasers Group, with applications spanning defence, medical, industrial, and energy sectors.
This partnership will unlock new possibilities and drive innovation to achieve groundbreaking advancements together.
Since 2021, the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide has collaborated with 40 Czech organisations on more than one hundred co-publications.
This number is increasing year on year, highlighting the growing research collaboration between the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide and the Czech Republic.
Researchers from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide’s Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology have maintained long-standing relationships with highly esteemed scientists and physicists from multiple Czech institutions, including the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥. This collaboration has been instrumental for advancing research on major experimental particle physics projects.
The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide looks forward to continuing to work together with the Czech Republic to tackle complex global challenges and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes for both countries and communities.
