ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥

The Senior Executive Mission to China and Hong Kong SAR in October showcased the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide’s commitment to fostering academic and research collaboration, strengthening and deepening ties with current partners, and enhancing our reputation and profile in the region.

Professor Jessica Gallagher, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement), led the delegation which included Professor Noel Lindsay, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Entrepreneurship), Professor Suzanne Le Mire, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Learning), Deputy Deans (International) and other representatives from the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and Faculty of Arts, Law, Business and Economics, and representatives from the Centre for Sustainable Operations and Resilient Supply Chains.

The delegation held productive discussions with several key partners in China and Hong Kong SAR, including Shanghai Jiao Tong ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, Tianjin ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, the China Scholarship Council, Tsinghua ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, Shandong ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, The Chinese ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Hong Kong, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.Ìý Highlights included renewing a student exchange agreement with Shanghai Jiao Tong ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ and undertaking a tour of their Innovation Centre, visiting Tianjin ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥â€™s National Facility for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (the largest in the world), and renewing a student exchange agreement with Tsinghua ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥. A Research Roundtable on Sustainability and Sustainable Operations and Supply Chains was also held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, which was the second joint research roundtable between the two institutions this year.Ìý

Professor Peter Høj AC, Vice-Chancellor, joined the delegation to visit Ocean ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of China and participate in a special joint celebration for Ocean ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of China’s 100^th anniversary and the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide’s 150^th anniversary and meet with Haide College staff and students. Haide College is a joint education institute from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide and Ocean ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of China which offers three undergraduate programs in mathematics and applied mathematics, biotechnology, and food science and engineering, with students then having the opportunity to transfer to the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide for postgraduate study. More than 1,400 students have studied at Haide College since its establishment.Ìý

150^th celebration events were also held in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong for the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide’s international alumni community. Over 300 guests attended the events collectively, including His Excellency Mr Scott Dewar, ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Mr John Williams, Consul General in China, Shanghai, and Mr Gareth Williams, Consul-General in China, Hong Kong.Ìý

Following on from this Senior Executive Mission, the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide’s Global Engagement Branch is hosting a Global Opportunities and Impact Forum on December 4 for ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide staff and students. This Forum will provide an overview of recent engagement activities and outcomes from the Mission, and information on partnership objectives and initiatives, research opportunities, and funding available to support partnership work with institutions in the region.Ìý
