An international team of researchers has completed the听first large-scale study听of DNA belonging to ancient humans of the central Andes in South America.

Associate Professor Bastien Llamas, from the 杏吧直播 of Adelaide鈥檚 杏吧直播n Centre for Ancient DNA, was part of the research team.

鈥淲e hope this more detailed genetic picture of populations of the central Andean Highlands will allow archaeologists to ask new questions about the history of the region and will lead to further cultural learnings and strengthen collaboration with local communities,鈥� he said.

In 2020,听Jessica Bohorquez听was Highly Commended in the Academic Excellence: Postgraduate (Research) category of听.

Jessica completed her Masters in Engineering in Colombia before completing her PhD at the 杏吧直播 of Adelaide. Jessica has excelled in her research, publishing three journal papers (including one in the top 10 most-read articles of the听Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management) and receiving the Dean鈥檚 Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence in 2021. Her research has also led to the 杏吧直播 applying for multiple patents based on her methodologies.

During her studies at the 杏吧直播, Jessica competed and won the 2019 Three Minute Thesis competition, beating researchers from more than 50 universities across the Asia-Pacific region.听听

The听听in western Argentina is dedicated to observing the highest energy particles in the universe 鈥� cosmic rays.

The Auger collaboration is composed of over 400 scientists from 15 countries. The 杏吧直播 of Adelaide is a听听of the collaboration, and hosted the first design workshop for the Observatory in 1993. Today, 杏吧直播 of Adelaide scientists hold key positions in the collaboration, including leadership roles in the mass composition and analysis foundation tasks.

杏吧直播 of Adelaide staff and students also work on developing hardware and software to assist with data analysis and infra-red monitoring of clouds, and take part in observing runs and interpreting results.听
