Senior Executive Mission visits Vietnam and India

Senior delegates from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide embarked on a Senior Executive Mission to Vietnam and India in August.

This Mission focused on strengthening collaboration with existing partners, fostering academic and research connections, and enhancing the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥â€™s reputation, profile and visibility in the region.

In Vietnam, the delegation, which included Professor Jessica Gallagher, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement) and representatives from Global Engagement, the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics and the Institute of Sustainability, Energy and Resources, met with the National Economics ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ (NEU), Vietnam National ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, and the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training.

The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide co-hosted the first Sustainable Futures Showcase Seminar with NEU, which brought together leaders, experts and stakeholders from both institutions and industry to discuss and exchange ideas on key issues related to sustainability, including energy and climate change, green technology, circular economy, and sustainable development. 

The Showcase attracted significant interest, with over 120 registrations from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Embassy, Aus4Skills, Vietnamese ministries and their research institutes, university lecturers, industry and NGOs. Before the Showcase, the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NEU, formalising a commitment to build mutual research, innovation and education capabilities, bring together transdisciplinary teams to tackle complex global challenges, and train the research leaders of tomorrow. 

In India, the delegation met with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, Vellore Institute of Technology, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, O.P. Jindal Global ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, and the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n High Commission (India).

A MoU was signed with IIT Madras to join their ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥-India Energy Consortium to facilitate collaboration between ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n and Indian researchers, academics, and industry experts in the energy sector.  The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥-India Energy Centre is a virtual centre established as a consortium of ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n and Indian universities, research institutions and energy businesses, which aims to promote transdisciplinary research, education, training, capacity building, and knowledge and technology transfer.

An inaugural Research Symposium was held with IISc Bangalore, with topics such as energy and sustainability, AI, STEM, entrepreneurship and funding opportunities covered.

was also launched in , with details of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥â€™s bold vision, brand and proposition for students, staff and global partners shared with key stakeholders in attendance. 

The Mission also engaged with its international alumni community as part of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide’s 150th celebrations.  Events were held in Hanoi and Singapore, with over 100 guests in attendance collectively.

Following on from the Mission, a Global Opportunities and Impact Forum was hosted by Global Engagement for ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide staff and students. The Forum provided an overview of recent engagement activities and outcomes from the Senior Executive Mission, and provided information on partnership objectives and initiatives, research opportunities, and funding available to support partnership work with institutions in the region.
