Inspired to teach
Despite a difficult childhood, Maria finished Dux of her school in 2013. Inspired by the positive impact her teachers had on her life and studies, she pursued a career in teaching, receiving an Augustus Short Scholarship in 2014. Today, Maria is an English and Humanities teacher at her old high school and a Council member for the City of Salisbury.
A world of discovery

Driven by a wonder about how the universe works and how it evolves over time, Kendall, an Augustus Short Scholarship recipient, will graduate in 2022 with a Master in Philosophy (Physics & Astronomy). Â Â
Civil engineer in training

Thanks to the Augustus Short Scholarship, Declan has been able to juggle study, professional placements and relocating from rural Victoria, all while putting his time and energy towards excelling in his Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering degree.

In 2013, Dr Christopher Smith embarked on his veterinary journey, studying a Bachelor of Science (Veterinary Bioscience) at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥â€™s Roseworthy Campus. He completed an internship at a specialist hospital in Perth in 2019, and today works as a vet in regional South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥.

Inaugural Alastair McEwin scholarship recipient

In 1994, Alastair McEwin AM graduated from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, deeply grateful for the support he’d received through the Sir Charles Bright Scholarship. Now, having risen to the position of ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Disability Discrimination Commissioner, he’s giving others with a disability the same opportunity to ‘fly’.

Local doctor comes full circle

In 2006, Dr Vanessa Hughes received an Augustus Short Scholarship to study a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Today she holds positions as both a General Practitioner and as a Lecturer at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide Medical School.
Discovering new cancer therapies

Receiving an Augustus Short Scholarship in 2012 to study a Bachelor of Science (Molecular & Drug Design), Aimee Horsfall from Loxton South ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, is today absorbed in research that could lead to changes in cancer treatments.
