  • Biography/ Background

My name is Natalia Caliani, I am an Argentinian agronomist. I studied agricultural sciences at the National ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of the Littoral. When I got to my 3rd year, I decided that I wanted to work for the wine industry, thus, I did my honours thesis at INTA Mendoza. After falling in love with it, I moved to Montpellier (France) and did a specialization on water and land management, where my thesis treated on how aerial and satellite images could help stablish a soil salinization chronicle. Back in Argentina, I worked during 13 months for a multinational enterprise (Snap-On) as a pruning specialist. Which meant I was a commercial and technical support for growers in general, specially vignerons. In 2017 I obtained a scholarship for coming to ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ do my master in Agricultural Science at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Western ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, where I did my thesis on Cabernet sauvignon microbiome in Margaret River. After finishing my master, I applied to the ARC TC for Innovative Wine Production scholarship as I was interested in working with yeast, especially novel species that could have potential applications to the wine industry. I started my PhD in April 2020.
