Biography/ Background
Anne Pender holds the Kidman Chair in ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Studies and is Director of the JM Coetzee Centre for Creative Practice. Anne is currently a Chief Investigator on a large ARC Linkage Project entitled Comedy Country: ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Performance Comedy as an Agent of Change. Anne was National Library of ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ Fellow, 2021, Fulbright Senior Fellow at Harvard ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ in 2018, and is a former ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Research Council Future Fellow 2012-2016. A Menzies Scholar to Harvard and graduate of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n National ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of New South Wales and Harvard ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, Anne was Visiting Distinguished Professor in ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Studies at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Copenhagen in 2011-2012 and taught ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Literature at King’s College London in 2002-2003. Anne’s books include Seven Big ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ns: Adventures with Comic Actors (2019), Players: ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥n Actors on Stage, Television and Film (2016), (2013), One Man Show: The Stages of Barry Humphries (2010), Nick Enright: An Actor’s Playwright (2008) and Christina Stead: Satirist (2002).
