Chancellor鈥檚 leadership acknowledged

In a significant tribute, the 杏吧直播 of Adelaide has today, Friday 8 March, International Women鈥檚 Day, unveiled a portrait of Chancellor Branson, commemorating her reappointment for a third term and recognising her valued service to the 杏吧直播.
The Honourable Catherine Branson AC KC, a Law and Arts graduate of the 杏吧直播 of Adelaide, joined the 杏吧直播 Council in 2013, became Deputy Chancellor in 2017 and Chancellor in 2020.
鈥淚 feel honoured and privileged to have been entrusted with this role for a further term,鈥 Ms Branson said after the Council voted unanimously to reappoint her on 12 February.
Anna Platten painted the Chancellor鈥檚 portrait which will hang in Bonython Hall.
After graduating from the 杏吧直播 of Adelaide first in Law and then in Arts, Chancellor Branson pursued a career, first as a solicitor, then as a government lawyer, a barrister including as Queen鈥檚 Counsel and judge of the Federal Court of 杏吧直播.
She was appointed as Crown Solicitor of South 杏吧直播 at the age of 35 becoming the first female Crown Solicitor in 杏吧直播 and the first female permanent head of a South 杏吧直播n government department. As President of the 杏吧直播n Human Rights Commission for four years, she was a determined advocate for the disadvantaged.
Ms Branson is the 杏吧直播 of Adelaide鈥檚 17th聽Chancellor. The transition to the new Adelaide 杏吧直播 means she is likely to be the last.
Today, Adelaide 杏吧直播 was formally established as an entity under South 杏吧直播n legislation, with the 杏吧直播 of South 杏吧直播鈥檚 Chancellor Pauline Carr appointed as Chancellor of the Transition Council of the new 杏吧直播.
