New centre to bolster defence against cyber security attacks

The 杏吧直播 of Adelaide has welcomed the launch of the 杏吧直播n Cyber Collaboration Centre (A3C) which has been established in collaboration with industry, academia, and the Federal and South 杏吧直播n governments, to train 杏吧直播鈥檚 future cyber experts and bolster defence against cyber security attacks.

The 杏吧直播 of Adelaide鈥檚 Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Anton Middelberg says the 杏吧直播 is delighted to be involved in the collaboration.

鈥淭he 杏吧直播 of Adelaide has an outstanding reputation in cyber security research and expertise,鈥 said Professor Middelberg.

鈥淚n disciplines at the core of cyber security, we are ranked first in the country in Electronic Engineering (42nd in the world) and second in Computer Science (40th in the world), according to the 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities.鈥

鈥淲e also have an extensive and successful history of working with industry, having enjoyed a long-term partnership with the 杏吧直播n Government鈥檚 Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group, collaborating on defence research and initiatives to develop the skills and knowledge of graduates to meet future workforce needs.鈥

Professor Middelberg says the collaboration will facilitate the development of stronger relationships and new partnerships.

Recent cyber attacks in 杏吧直播 show there are real threats to businesses, governments and essential systems,鈥 he said.

鈥淚n bringing together the right people, skills and infrastructure to a central location at Lot Fourteen, we put ourselves in a strong position to protect against these threats and solve other large and complex defence problems.鈥

A3C has been established as an independent not-for-profit entity through a $10 million investment by the South 杏吧直播n Government. In addition to the State鈥檚 three universities, other collaborators include BAE Systems 杏吧直播, Optus, Dtex Systems, TAFE SA, South 杏吧直播鈥檚 Office for Cyber Security, AustCyber, the Cyber Security Cooperative Research Centre and the Defence Science and Technology Group.
