IPAS Launches New Masterclass Series
On March 13, the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing held the first session of its new IPAS Masterclass series—an initiative developed by the Science Network Committee (SNC) to support professional development among members.
Held in The Braggs building, the session brought together students, researchers, and staff for a focused conversation on time management, an essential skill for navigating the competing demands of academic and professional life. The Masterclass was introduced by Professor Mark Hutchinson, IPAS Director, and featured contributions from Professor Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem, Director of the ANFF Optofab Adelaide Hub, and Helena Wescombe-Down, IPAS Project Manager.
The format included short talks, practical advice, and an interactive exercise designed to encourage participants to reflect on how they currently manage their time and where improvements could be made. Attendees were also invited to contribute suggestions for future Masterclass topics.
The session was well-attended and set a constructive tone for the series, which aims to offer practical tools to support career development alongside research excellence.
The IPAS Masterclass series will run alongside the existing IPAS Seminar Series, with topics driven by the needs and interests of the IPAS community. Further sessions are currently in planning and will be announced in the coming weeks.
