ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥

Nothing can replace the loss of someone dear to us. For Adelaide alumnus Graham Smith, establishing a scholarship for Roseworthy veterinary science students in the name of his late partner, Rosa Samuels, is a fitting way to honour her memory. It reflects Rosa’s lifelong love of animals, their shared connection with our ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, and, most touchingly, their final outing together.

Graham graduated from the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide in 1975 with a BA (Honours) in Geography and Diploma in Education. He is also a member of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥â€™s Hughes Society, having committed to remembering the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ in his will. As part of Graham’s society membership, he is regularly invited to ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ special events and would always take Rosa. They looked forward to the events and one they both particularly enjoyed was a tour of our Roseworthy campus.

Rosa had always been drawn to animals, and a member of her family had studied at Roseworthy. Both Rosa and Graham were incredibly impressed with what they saw on that tour; and as fate would have it, the tour was the last time they ventured out together.

Graham’s decision to establish the Rosa Samuels Memorial Scholarship for Roseworthy veterinary science students, not only remembers Rosa and a treasured shared experience, but it also speaks of Graham’s own deep respect for the value of education and community service.
