New paper rewrites the biology of common wetland reed

A new study by the Environment Institute's has uncovered the biology of phragmites australis,Ìýa globally important plant native to the British Isles.

Phragmites are a type of wetland reed, withÌýphragmite australisÌýbeing one of the most common. The reeds are vital to wildlife and conservation as they provide a nesting site for birds and also remove pollutants from water. Despite the global significance of phragmites, there are gaps in our understanding of their biology.

Packer and a team of international researchersÌýstudied phragmites australis over two years,Ìýdeveloping a comprehensive understanding of their biology. The research is published in the and is likely to beÌýrecognised as the authoritative information of the species.
