The Horace Lamb Rose Bowl will be on display in the Barr Smith Library Foyer during April.

A wonderfully crafted object in George II style, made of parcel gilt and silver manufactured in the United Kingdom, this was given as a gift to Horace Lamb, the first Elder Professor of Mathematics at the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, in 1898 by the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ Council after his departure to take up a post at Manchester ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥. The bowl was purchased and given to Lamb by his successor, William Bragg.

Lady Nicholson, Lamb's daughter, donated the bowl to the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ via the late Professor Ren Potts in 1965 as a reminder of Lamb's time in Adelaide.

Professor Frank Sear translated the Latin inscription in 1985 and it reads:

<p class='caption'><i>The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ Council [give this bowl] to Horace Lamb, MA Fellow of the Royal Society of London, sometime Elder Professor of Mathematics and Natural Philosophy in the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥ of Adelaide, Doctor of Divinity, in remembrance of his continuing service to the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥, AD 1898.</i></p>

Professor Frank Sear translated the Latin inscription in 1985 and it reads:
